GUWAHATI: In a bid to augment revenue collection, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) is collaborating with the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) to make it mandatory for existing power consumers to update their respective GMC house holding/assessment number with the APDCL's IT branch within June 30.

New consumers will have to have to submit these documents at the time of applying for a new power connection.

An APDCL official said that there are around 1 lakh power consumers who do not have GMC house holding/assessment numbers, which hampers revenue collection. Once the house holding/assessment numbers are registered, consumers will be unable to evade either power bills or GMC taxes, he said.
